The New River Gorge Preserve already has miles of trails and overlooks to enjoy. These walks through the woods are a perfect way to take in the grandeur of the Forge and its diverse Appalachian forest.

These trails were designed by Troy Scott Parker, author of Natural Surface Trails, the authoritative book on trail design. The trails were built by a professional trail contractor, Appalachian Landscape Management, Inc. Working and creating amenities like these within a natural environment is central to the New River Gorge Preserve.

The Gorge overlook's stone terraces were built from stones taken from the site itself. This area was made for overlooks, and the Preserve grounds offer the perfect vantage. It provides a spectacular view of the Gorge, and the new River Gorge Bridge.

At the entrance to the Preserve is the Outfitter Village. It offers the best in outdoor gear and outfitters. Whether its rafting, climbing, fishing, hiking, or one of the many other outdoor activities the area offers, Outfitter Village can show you the way.

In 2009, we'll be celebrating the grand opening of a general store, where all the essentials you need will be available, without making a quick run to town.
