The Road Less Traveled
ife at the New River Gorge Preserve is secluded. But it’s not isolated. For all of the benefits we find through living closely with nature, there are easy ways to move in and around the gorge.
The Plateau Region
The closer you drive to the New River Gorge, the more our West Virginia mountains start broaden into a wide plateau above the river. This means that the wide US 19 corridor leading to the gorge is an easy drive, any time of year.
Just 30 minutes away from the New River Gorge Preserve is the intersection of Interstates 64 and 77. From this crossroads, you can easily access every part of the south, east, and west.
The Preserve is at the New River Gorge Bridge, a link that connects our section of US 19 to Interstate 79. This allows for direct drive access to Pittsburg and the northeast.
Flying Around
30 minutes south of the New River Gorge Preserve is Beckley Raleigh County Regional airport. 1 hour to the west is Charleston Yeager airport, in the capitol
