Four Distinct Seasons

Rarely does a place so completely fulfill expectations. With our moderate latitude, and diverse mountain elevations, The New River Gorge Preserve gets four distinct seasons every year.

Our average year-round temperature is in the mid 60’s. We get about 40 inches of rain, and about 40 inches of snow. Average snowfall depth is less than 1 inch.

Fog in the gorge in the morning usually gives way to sunshine in the afternoon. We get summer showers, and spring rains, and windy fall days- never enough for some, just about right for others.
